Specimen Answer:

Purpose:
To maintain order and control within groups.
Question(s):
How can we ensure that people in the group conform to the group’s beliefs, rules, customs, and taboos? How will we deal with group members who violate group rules?
Information:
Information that enables us to maintain control over the group – includes information about group members, human nature, rules to be followed, punishment methods, etc.
Inference(s):
Judgments about

(1) which behaviors will be rewarded in the group, which will be punished, which will be allowed;

(2) how to deal with those who “violate” the rules;

(3) who gets power and who doesn’t.
Concept(s):
Humans as group animals in need of control by those who know how to maintain law and order.
Assumption(s):
For the group to prosper, order must be maintained. Group members must follow the rules of the group. Group members who dissent are a threat to our groups.
Implication(s):
If people abide by the rules, taboos and conventions of the group, the group will survive and prosper. If they don’t the group will suffer.
Point(s) of View:
Seeing group control as a necessity for survival, and group acceptance of rules a necessity.
